Sunday Morning Work Sessions 2017 - experience classical horse training 'close-up'

The Sunday morning work sessions at Gut Rosenhof do not just give the audience the opportunity to view the training work of Anja Beran and her team with a wide range of horses ‘close-up’. In addition, every event offers an afternoon programme with a focus on interesting, horse-related topics.

See below for a short review of the Sunday morning work sessions in 2017:

Sunday Morning Work Session May 2017

The morning programme featured Anja Beran on PRE stallion Ofendido, Silvia Wimmer on Frisian stallion Gawain, Vera Munderloh in the side-saddle on Lipizzaner stallion Tulipan Palma, Katharina Reinthaler on Lusitano gelding Xistoso, Vera Munderloh onLipizzaner stallion Maestoso Stornella, Silvia Wimmer working in-hand with Lusitano stallion Olé and Weil-Marbach pure-bred Arab stallion Malakil, Vera Munderloh on Bavarian stallion Luis Figo and gelding Rüdiger from the Principal and State Stud of Schwaiganger, Silvia Wimmer on Weil-Marbach Arab stallion Safi as well as Malakil from the Principal and State Stud of Schwaiganger. A training situation was also demonstrated with the horses Nadal, Xistoso and Alaraz.

The afternoon programme of the first morning work session in May was an extremely successful season opener: Veterinarian Elisabeth Albescu gave a talk on the topic “Old horses – livery arrangements, feeding and exercise”. Many interested spectators were eager to pose questions whilst the two Lusitano stallions Homero and Novilunio made their appearance as impressively spright “oldies”. The clear legs of both horses were particularly admired, and the alert eyes as well as their general pleasure in movement also impressed on the audience.

Sunday Morning Work Session June 2017

Work was already in progress with some of the horses as visitors arrived: Lusitano gelding Bue under Anja Beran, Lusitano stallion Olé working in-hand with Silvia Wimmer and Lusitano stallion Novilunio under Vera Munderloh. The morning programme featured the following horses and riders: Vera Munderloh in the side-saddle on Lusitano stallion Super and Katharina Reinthaler on Frederiksborg stallion Sirius. Vera Munderloh also presented Lipizzaner stallion Maestoso Stornella and Warmblood gelding Rüdiger as well as Lusitano stallion Hyperion Asti. Silvia Wimmer, riding Weil-Marbach pure-bred Arab stallion Safi, demonstrated work with the remonte.

In the afternoon, trainer Kathrin Roida presented some excerpts from her newly published book “Gymnastizieren an der Hand” (gymnasticising in-hand). Her team had brought along their own horses at different training levels and demonstrated individual gymnasticising in-hand.

Sunday Morning Work Session July 2017

First to enter the arena were Anja Beran on Lusitano stallion Pao, Vera Munderloh on Lipizzaner stallion Tulipan Palma in the side-saddle and the pupils Silvia Wimmer on Lusitano gelding Xistoso and Katharina Reinthaler on a P.R.E. stallion. In the following, visitors were able to observe Anja Beran’s work with the remontes: With Vera Munderloh on Bavarian stallion Ballentines from the Principal and State Stud of Schwaiganger, Anja demonstrated for example initial touching/introduction to touching and correct remonte carriage. The same exercise, but with a different breed, was demonstrated by the young pure-bred Arab sire Safi from the Principal and State Stud of Marbach and his rider Silvia Wimmer. The more advanced movements were presented by Vera Munderloh and Bavarian stallion Luis Figo, also from the Principal and State Stud of Schwaiganger. Next to enter the arena was Lusitano stallion Olé working in-hand with Silvia Wimmer, followed by Lippizaner stallion Maestoso Stormella and haute école movements under his trainer Vera Munderloh.

In the afternoon programme, veterinary specialist for chiropractic (A) Elisabeth Albescu provided the audience with a fascinating insight into the anatomy of horses. Speaking on the topic “Anatomy and biomechanics – what every rider needs to know”, the experienced horse veterinarian informed the audience about the most important bones, ligaments and muscles – giving a practical demonstration on the horse. This way the audience was able to understand sequences of movement and implement them as a rider.

Sunday Morning Work Session August 2017

At the morning work session in August, visitors were welcomed by Anja Beran on Lusitano gelding Bue and Vera Munderloh in the side-saddle on Lusitano stallion Super. Work with young horses was demonstrated by Anja Beran lungeing Bavarian stallion Diego from the Principal and State Stud of Schwaiganger and the young Weil-Marbach pure-bred Arab stallion Safi with his rider Silvia Wimmer. They presented – in exquisite perfection – what the ultimate objective of training, haute école movements, should look like.
